Mölle by the sea

“We wanted to redefine the traditional wooden façade to create an ambitious and innovative solution.”

*****

“We wanted to invoke the tactility and lightness of wood. The building’s architecture and form sit very naturally in the setting.”

Jonas Elding

Mölle is a unique place in terms of topography and nature, as well as history and aura. As far as the client and the architects are concerned, the ambition in Mölle was to reawaken the dormant architectural traditions of the area and bring them into our modern age. The building displays both contrast and sensitivity in relation to the plot and the context. The volume has been kept low, with no plinth or pitched roof. The terraced plot faces towards Öresund, but not all the views in the building face in the same direction – there are also other attractions to enjoy. The shape of the building divides the plot up into different rooms and creates a subtly separated sequence of interiors. The design also breaks up the volume of the building, making it look monumentally striking from certain angles and more intimate from others.
